Joplin (Two Flutes with Piano) \nAbout the musicians: \nSara Boyd received her Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton\, NJ in 2015. In addition she holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Piano from the University of California at Irvine. Throughout her degree she received merit based funding and monthly stipends to teach group piano and accompany undergraduate recitals at the University. Sara lives in Westerly where she teaches piano and collaborates with local musicians. \nJohn Curran performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra from 1965-2004 and from 1970-1980 he was Principal Flutist with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra. Presently\, he is Principal Flutist with the Narragansett Bay Symphony and the Ocean State Summer Pops Orchestra. He received his BA in Chemistry degree from the University of Rhode Island with minors in Mathematics\, Physics and Music. His flute studies were with James Pappoutsakis at New England Conservatory followed by advanced studies with Julius Baker and Robert Stallman. \nJohn Graham\, a Westerly native\, graduated from WHS in 1966. He furthered his musical education at URI receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1970. He taught music in the West Warwick Public Schools from 1970-2000. From 2000-2010 he taught 4th grade at St. Thomas School in Providence. John has performed with the RI Philharmonic\, The Eastern Connecticut Symphony\, the American Band and the Pipe Dream Flute Choir. His hobbies include attending WHS sporting events and cuddling with his Yorkie-poo\, Sidney.

DESCRIPTION:Film Screening Series with Green Planet Films\nSEP 27\, 2023/5:30 PM–07:00 PM \nLOCATION \nAuditorium \nCONTACT \nReference\n(401) 596-2877 x306 \nWe’re excited to present a 3-part film series with Green Planet Films\, a local non-profit that distributes documentary films focusing on nature\, the environment\, and human ecology. For each screening\, representatives from Green Planet Films will give a brief introduction to the film. \nFor the first screening in our series\, we’re showing “Forest for the Trees – The Tree Planters”. You can view the trailer HERE. \n  \nThe road to recovery is one step at a time \nThis visually and artistically unique documentary explores the physical and emotional aspects of a community of Canadian west coast tree planters. Deftly weaving together still photos and film footage\, Rita Leistner\, an award-winning photographer\, photojournalist\, filmmaker and erstwhile tree planter (who has been nominated for a 2022 Canadian Screen Award for Best Cinematography for her work in this film)\, depicts the contradictions in the experiences of the tree planters—the hardship and the healing; the solitude and the joy of belonging—creating an eloquent cinematic metaphor for the human condition. \nThis program is free and open to all ages\, and popcorn will be served. Please note that this film is unrated\, but would likely be considered “PG” due to numerous scenes portraying cigarette smoking. \n
